郑州之窗2022-11-23 16:57:20

Du Fu was born in Gongyi, Zhengzhou, which is located in the central and western part of Henan Province, facing Luoyang, the ancient capital of nine dynasties in the west, Songshan Mountain in the south, and the Yellow River in the north.

As an icon period in the history of Chinese ancient literature, the creation of Tang poetry is still hard to exceed. Du Fu, who was born in Gongyi, Zhengzhou in 712, is regarded as a "giant" and a saint among poets in the history.

Vividly expressing the poet's feelings, On the Height is considered one of Du's best poems. But the poem is also known for its rhythm.

On the Height

Tang Dynasty·Du Fu

The wind so swift, the sky so wide, apes wail and cry;

Water so clear and beach so white, birds wheel and fly.

The boundless forest sheds its leaves shower by shower;

The endless river rolls its waves hour after hour,

A thousand miles from home, I'm grieved at autumn's plight;

Ill now and then for years, alone I'm on this height,

Living in times so hard, at frosted hair I pine;

Cast down by poverty, I have to give up wine.

(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)

The shared version of "On the Height" programmed by the poetry and singing of the Huaxia Ancient Orchestra of Henan Museum. In the music, the Chinese zither, drum, Xiao and other instruments take us to the time and space where the autumn wind is bleak and the river is rushing.
