Songyang Academy is one of the four academies in ancient China.

嵩阳书院是中国古代四大书院之一。

Songyang Academy was the source and dissemination center of Neo-Confucianism, which played an important role in its formation and dissemination. Its planning layout and physical preservation are unique, which is of irreplaceable specimen significance for the study of ancient Chinese academy architecture, educational system and Confucian culture.

嵩阳书院是程朱理学的策源地和传播中心，对程朱理学的形成和传播起到了重要作用。其规划布局和实物留存独具特色，对研究中国古代书院建筑、教育制度以及儒家文化具有不可替代的标本意义。

 

In 1961, Songyang Academy was declared a national key cultural relic protection unit by The State Council. On August 1, 2010, the historic buildings of "Heaven and Earth", including Songyang Academy, were inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO at the 34th World Heritage Conference.

 

1961年，嵩阳书院被国务院公布为全国重点文物保护单位。2010年8月1日，包括嵩阳书院在内的“天地之中”历史建筑群，被联合国教科文组织第34届世界遗产大会列入世界文化遗产名录。
