Dehua Street is a commercial street of Erqi tower commercial circle in Erqi District of Zhengzhou.

德化街是郑州市二七区二七塔商业圈的一条商业街, 始建于公元1905年。

 

 

In 1901, the Beijing-hankou railway was available, which led to the development of Zhengzhou's commerce.Chen Long ,the provincial governor at that time present a memorial to the emperor to plan the surrounding road construction to form the Dehua Street.

1901年京汉铁路建成通车后，带动了郑州商业的发展。当时的河南巡抚陈龙奏请清政府批准，将郑州辟为商埠，并在郑州周围着手规划道路建设，这才形成了德化街。

 

 

Yuanling Steet was the demarcation line then, to its south was Tianzhongli and north Huinjie. Since the pronunciation of Chinese character “惠”and “毁” are the same, and the later one means destroy and damage which is not acceptable to the businessmen, then Liu Bangji discussed with other people, taking the meaning of “morality makes people educated”,they named the street “Dehua Street”and this name is still in use today.

当时的街道以苑陵街为界，南名天中里，北名惠人街。后因“惠”与“毁”谐音受商人忌讳，清末举人刘邦骥与众商合议，取“德化育人”之意，定名德化街，并沿用至今。
