Zhengzhou International【走近郑州历史名人】上古隐世 许由

 

Located in the middle of heaven and earth, Zhengzhou is nurtured by the Yellow river. Since ancient times, herds of influential statesmen, thinkers, scientists and writers borned here. They either worked for the government or wrote books, highlighting their times with their insights, creations and ideas.

位居天地之中、黄河之滨的郑州，受大河哺育、“天中”滋养，自古以来就涌现出众多影响深远的政治家、思想家、科学家、文学家等各领域杰出人才，他们或为政一方，或著书立说，用自己的见解、创造和思想为所处时代打上了一片片“高光”。

 

Take copper as a mirror, one can be dressed; take people as a mirror,one can judge gains and losses. Maybe we will have new gains when we get close to these famous people in Zhengzhou's history again.

以铜为鉴，可以正衣冠; 以人为鉴，可以明得失。当我们再次走近郑州历史上的这些名人，或许会有新的收获。

 

 

Xu You was a wise man in the Yao and Shun Dynasties. During the reign of Emperor Yao, he led the Xu tribe in the areas of Dengfeng, Xuchang, Yuzhou, Ruzhou, Changge and Yanling in today's Yingshui River basin, which later became the fief of the State of Xu, and he became the ancestor of the Xu clan.

许由是尧舜时代的贤人。帝尧在位的时候，他率领许姓部落活动在今天颍水流域的登封、许昌、禹州、汝州、长葛、鄢陵一带，这一带后来便成了许国的封地，他从而也成为许姓的始祖。

 

Emperor Yao is said to seek advice from him more than once. Later, he tried to pass the throne to Xu You, but he refused sternly.He fled to Mount Qi in Dengfeng and lived in seclusion, no longer willing to interact with secular society.Emperor Yao sent his men to find Xu You and wanted to ask him to serve as Jiuzhou governor, but Xu You went to Ying River and wash his ear, said that he did not want to listen to such words.

据说帝尧曾多次向他请教，后来想把君位传给他，遭到了他的严词拒绝。他逃到了登封的箕山隐居起来，再也不愿意与世俗社会交往。帝尧派人找到了他，想请他出任九州长官，他跑到颍水边洗耳，表示不愿意听这种话。

 

Xu You won the respect of later generations for his lofty moral integrity indifferent to fame and wealth, and was regarded as the originator of the hermit.

许由以自己淡泊名利的崇高节操赢得了后世的尊敬，从而被奉为隐士的鼻祖。
