Governing the Country: to establish the “Chinese Alliance Group”

Legend goes that after more than 50 major battles, the Yellow Emperor finally unified the Yellow River Valley and put an end to the fighting situation among the different tribes, and realized his great ideal of world peace. In order to bring a solution to the state of disunity, the Yellow Emperor wielded a common tactic at the time: making alliances.

据说黄帝经历了50多次重大的战斗，终于统一了黄河流域，结束了各个部落互相攻击的局面，实现了天下和平的伟大理想。为了解决一盘散沙的状况，黄帝祭出了在当时一个常见的招式：结盟。

 

As he had made up his mind, the Yellow Emperor issued his call for gathering to all the tribes: we will get together on Fu Mountain on a certain day of a certain month of a certain year. And this place is located in the present Xushui County in Hebei Province.

思谋既定，黄帝就向各个部落发出召集令：将于某年某月某日，共聚于釜山。这个地方，就在今天河北省徐水县境内。

 

When time was up, the Fu Mountain was crowded with people, just like the most popular tourist spot during holidays.

到了时间，釜山那可是人从众，就像假日期间最热门的景点。

 

The Yellow Emperor made a fluent and lengthy speech, saying that “one chopstick is broken easily, but ten chopsticks are held firmly together”, and that “unity is strength”. Soon people became more or less unified in thoughts.

黄帝洋洋洒洒，讲“一根筷子轻轻被折断，十根筷子牢牢抱成团”，讲 “团结就是力量”，很快，大家的思想统一得差不多了。

 

The Yellow Emperor said, “For the sake of future development, we are going to set up a group here and today, face to face, and this group will be called ‘the Chinese Alliance Group’, and we will be all Chinese in the future!” Words alone are no proof. So the Yellow Emperor took out a batch of jade symbols prepared in advance. This jade symbol was divided into two pieces which matched each other. One piece was left in the central government, and the other piece was given to the tribe leaders. Only leaders with the jade symbol had the authority to rule local places, just like officials with their seals.

黄帝说，为了以后的发展，今天我们要当面建一个群，这个群叫“华夏联盟群”，以后我们都是华夏人!口说无凭，黄帝又拿出了一批事先准备好的玉符。这个玉符分为两片，但又互相吻合。一片留在中央，一片分给部落首领。首领有玉符才能有权管理地方，相当于官员大印。

 

Through the establishment of alliances and issuing seals and symbols as well as other measures, the Chinese Alliance became stronger and stronger, and the number of people joining it was also increasing.

通过建立联盟、颁发印符等措施，华夏联盟越来越强大，归附的人也越来越多。
