Zhengzhou Quickens Economic Transformation
Yutong Bus and iPhone assembled in Henan have gained worldwide popularity; Sanquan and Synear quick-frozen foods have been a necessity for global families; China (Zhengzhou)-Europe Block Trains are running along the Silk Road at full load… Zhengzhou is sparing no efforts to accelerate the transformation and development to increase the city competitiveness.
Preliminary data showed that Zhengzhou’s GDP reached 404.02 billion yuan in the first half year, rising 8.1% from a year ago. According to authorities, "Zhengzhou's economic growth is jointly driven by the secondary and tertiary industries instead of being mainly supported by the tertiary industry in the last year. The economic development becomes better balanced."
In the first six months, GDP of seven leading industries rose 10.5% from a year earlier, making a strong 7.3% growth rate in Zhengzhou's industry and contributing 89.6% to Zhengzhou’s GDP. Service industry also developed well. The air cargo volume reached 100,000 tons, representing a 20.4% jump from a year ago; the railway freight volume stood at 14.58 million tons, up 1.7% compared with last year.
Taking one step at a time, Zhengzhou develops with strong competitiveness: GDP exceeded RMB 500 billion in 2012, RMB 600 billion in 2013, RMB 700 billion in 2015 and amounted to RMB 799.4 billion in 2016. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, there were two historical breakthroughs: the tertiary industry took up a larger share than the secondary industry, and the modern emerging industries also took up a larger share than the high energy-consuming industries.
Taking advantage of the favorable momentum, Zhengzhou is vigorously building a strong city in manufacturing, and advancing the supply-side structural reform as well as the structural adjustment and industrial transformation. Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, International Land Port, cross-border e-commerce and other new opening-up platforms will also fuel the economic development of Zhengzhou.
Experts point out that, with the implementation of a series of national strategies such as the "three zones and one cluster" and the national central city, Zhengzhou will enter a new development stage.
